Service Description: This project helps Valmeyer, Illinois, a community relocated to higher land in order to reduce Mississippi River-related recurring flooding hazards. This GIS project, housed inside the Monroe County Assessor's Office, updates parcel data to reflect the town's new location and offers vital spatial analysis for property assessments and disaster response. Driven using a digital elevation model and spatial analytic tools, the project updates the new parcels layer with characteristics for elevation, slope, and mean distance from the old town using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. To enable emergency vehicle routing, a new road layer was digitized; a public online map was developed to provide data access. The resultant statistics and visualizations help to clarify the geographical consequences of the town's move and enhance future efforts at catastrophe readiness.
