View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: This web map shows the rate ratio of average mortality rates for Black women and White women from 2014 to 2018 for each county in America. The hotspots on this map which are clusters of counties where the breast cancer mortality rate is higher for Black women than White women, and they are shown in red or orange. The cold spots, which are clusters of counties where Black and White women have similar breast cancer death rates are shown in blue. North Carolina has more hot spots where more Black women than White women pass from breast cancer. East of Pennsylvania is a cluster of cold spots where White and Black women’s mortality rate from breast cancer is similar. South of Brookhaven is another cluster of hotspots where more Black women than White women with breast cancer pass. The data presented may be inaccurate to some degree as there may be missing data due to confidentiality or privacy reasons that will not show the cancer mortality rates of different ethnic groups. In conclusion, the information presented in this web map could be used by advocacy organizations to raise awareness to elected officials to create equal access to health and social resources when Black, White, and women or different ethnic groups are diagnosed with breast cancer. This could be through support groups, early detection and screening of women from different cultures for breast cancer; and education of different racial and ethnic groups. Once a diagnoses of breast cancer is found; there should be better and equal access from all women to treatment and the subsidy of the financial cost of these expensive treatments.
