FAA_Fault_Line (FeatureServer)

View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description:

The fault traces have been used to create Fault Awareness Areas, which show areas where there may be a surface fault rupture hazard. Surface fault rupture is the permanent breaking, ripping, buckling or warping of the ground on or near the line where a fault meets the ground surface, as a result of movement on the fault. It is different from earthquake shaking.

This file contains fault mapping used to construct Fault Awareness Areas for active faults outside of TaupōDistrict Council LiDAR areas in the TaupōDistrict (Litchfield et al. 2020). The faults were mapped using Bay of Plenty LiDAR data, the NZ Active Faults Database, and previous detailed fault mapping (G. Leonard and D. Townsend unpublished; P. Villamor unpublished data).

This dataset has been created as recommended in Barrell et al. (2015) "Guidelines for using regional-scale earthquake fault information in Canterbury". GNS Science Consultancy Report 2014/211.

These data should be used in conjunction with the associated GNS Science report CR2020/31.
