Service Description: This map provides a spatial analysis of food security and accessibility in Hamilton, Ontario. It focuses on the Community Food Centre (CFC) located at 310 Limeridge Road West to evaluate how geographic placement affects service delivery for vulnerable populations.
The project integrates >10 data layers to create a comprehensive portrait of the local food landscape. Key components include the locations of food banks, community gardens, and meal centres compared against commercial grocery store density. To address transit equity, the map features HSR bus stop locations and a 1-kilometre pedestrian buffer around the CFC, illustrating the challenges of accessing fresh food in a suburban, lower-density environment.
By overlaying socioeconomic data from Statistics Canada, such as the prevalence of low income after tax, the map identifies service gaps and food deserts. This tool serves as a planning resource to visualize the relationship between urban infrastructure, transportation, and equitable food access.
